Nine Lives

Can dogs have nine lives?  I love (most days) my 9 pound Chloe, but last night, again, she proved to be indestructible.

First, Chloe is a rescue dog.  She showed up on a friends doorstep on Christmas day 2004, after living in the woods for what was possibly months.  At nine pounds I can't imagine how many hawks, coons and other wild animals she encountered and conquered.

Since coming to live with us in January of 2005 Chloe has been run over by a bike, ingested an entire corn cob and passed it painfully after a few days, had kidney problems, jumped out of a stopped car in a school parking lot and made her way inside to find me, suffered many a blow to the head from children playing basketball and soccer, Chloe has taken off after me when I have driven away from home, she has chewed her way thru a wooden gate, peed her way thru every airport she has flown thru, and lost all her teeth, just to name a few incidents.

And last night?  While visiting my brother in law and hanging out with his family in their backyard, Chloe found a mouse trap and set it off on her tongue.  Yes, her tongue.

No, we are not negligent.

More Gratuitous Pet Stuff

My girl decided to keep her sweater on all day, here she is showing a bit of cleavage.

EVERY night this is Chloe's M.O.  Tonight, I was standing at the stove cooking green beans and Chloe sidles up to me and stands on her hind legs.  She can stand that way forever.  When you tell her to knock it off she sits on her butt with her front legs still midair.

David HATES this.  I ignore this.  Chloe is doing her best to trip me or impress me so she can get some food.  The moment David sees this, he sends her to her bed.

Gratuitous Pet Photos

Because I am a horrible, wicked person, I have to post some gratuitous pet photos.  First up  squirrel torture...

We first purchased this horrible plastic ball for Chili and Pepper a few days after they came home from the breeder.  We originally bought the ball to keep the babies safe from Chloe, and we thought the babies could drive Chloe crazy with it.  I think we tried the ball once, and I had an attack on how cruel it seemed to cram the little boogers in it.  A few months have passed, so we brought it out again to see how Pepe' le Pew would fare, and she loved it!

On to Chloe.  She was getting to be a mangy mutt that could not see her own nose.  She looks pretty pissed in this picture, which cracks me up. Her hair was getting gross and long and the hair on her nose and on her paws was especially bad.

Saturday she went for her day of beauty, and came home form the spa looking like this...

Toe nails done.  Ears plucked.

Gorgeous as ever.

He Really Does Love Her After All

Today on our family walk Chloe got a little cold.
About half way home Chloe refused to put her right paw
on the sidewalk.
After David warmed her paws in his bare hands,
he picked her up and zipped her into his coat.

Bubba "fell" every few feet,
and decided to make snow angels along the way.

Free Dog to Bad Home

Number sixteen.
I saw it before my feet even touched the floor this morning.
It was dry as a bone.
She either waited outside my bedroom last night
and after hearing that I was fast asleep,
came in and peed next to my side of the bed...
or
I never saw it from the first batch.
I'm guessing it was the first option.

After I hauled the steam cleaner all the way back up the stairs,
cleaned up number sixteen,
I came down to the main level to sit for a bit.
Chloe walks into the room and looks at me,
walks over to the kitchen table and
hops up onto the chair and jumps up to the table.

Excuse me?

I am sitting not 3 feet away.

Getting Back In the Swing

Winter is upon us.

The 'hood is looking pretty and snow covered.
No longer will our neighbors judge us for our weeds and
brown lawn, everyone is equal in winter!
Yeah, snow!
(That is the only time you'll hear me say that phrase.)

Chloe the wonder dog has a new trick!
Or should I say she has A trick.
She L*O*V*E*S to be off leash on her afternoon walk around the neighborhood.
As soon as she hears Bubba's bus coming she takes off running and
tries to beat it home.
I can't tell if she likes the chase of it or if she's so dumb (and has the memory
of a gnat) she forgets how mean Bubba is to her.

I really like this coaster pattern I found online.
I started this project awhile back.
I started machine sewing the coasters
so I could have a reason to sit on the couch and hand stitch the binding
whilst watching t.v.

Here is the start of my coaster gift set.
I bought a little pack of this Christmas fabric at JoAnn and
made a little placemat/runner and
now I'm making some coasters and such, as a stocking stuffer for miene Mutti.
(The colors match her living room.)

And finally...I wanted to wrap up a wine bottle for a friend
and made a wine bottle coozey. Isn't that what you call those foam things
that keep your beer cool?
Anyway, I made a few, since they were a cinch,
to match some of the gifts
I'm giving.
