Wiinjuries

We got a Wii this weekend as the big "Daddy's home for the Weekend" extravaganza commenced. I had actually bought it a few weeks ago (after D's last visit when we had such a hard time finding one) and hid it in the closet because D wanted to be the emcee for the big reveal.

The kids were ecstatic. So were wii. Believe me, the wii-ism's will never stop. The kids call Wii tennis, wiienis...baseball, wiiaseball... etc. Anyway, the entire family holed up in the bonus room and played non-stop Wii all weekend. And can I just say? Wiinjuries are a pain! Non stop wiiennis gives you wicked shoulder pain the next day. We woke up Sunday barely able to move.

So what did I do? Went out and bought Wii Fit since I figured all my parts should be sore. Wii fit is good, I like the basic concept of playing a "game" to exercise my parts, but until I unlock a few more levels/games I think I could be bored soon. Wii'll see.

Daddy's Home...

Yesterday my van started making an embarrassing retching noise every time I turned to the left and when it idled. As the day progressed, it got WORSE. D was due to come home last night, and I imagined that this was great, we'd be able to make the decision together to have it fixed or go car shopping and do some economic stimulus of our own. I picked D up at the airport, after a heinous series of flights on his part poor soul, and as I pulled up to baggage claim to retrieve him I saw the smirk on his face as the van made the retching sound. I had warned him that we "had a problem."

This morning, after deliberating for HOURS over whether we should buy a new car, get our van fixed, etc given that I have no spare currently and the dealership service appointment book was full. We seriously used a ton of brain power over this stupid decision. While I went to shower D went out and "took a look." He was gone for a LONG time and I started panicking thinking I should call the state patrol or something.

Long story short. The van is fixed. David went to the auto parts store and bought a $2 bottle of magic steering fluid and van is all better. Yes, I am slightly disappointed.

Retro-ville

Inspired by my sister and an absolutely HILARIOUS 1970's picture of my ZZ top goatee clad brother-in-law in a pukey orange terrycloth bathrobe standing in front of a portrait screen (hopefully I can post it sometime)...I started making funny retro birthday cards for members of my family. For my nephew's upcoming 15th birthday I sent/am sending the picture on the left with the caption on the front "Matt suddenly felt self conscious that his shorts were much longer than every one else's" and on the inside "Happy Birthday to someone with a keen sense of fashion."

My brother, Matt (the father of above mentioned nephew), is the one in the hat on the right. He just had a birthday in January and turned 44. For Matt's birthday his kids bought him work-out clothes because he is on a kick to get in shape. The shorts they bought him were these crazy gangsta-length shorts that my brother is self conscious of. Matt said they were like a skort on him. So I dug up this crazy 1980's picture of Matt as a joke for my nephew.

This picture is of my Dad and us three kids from the early 70's. I think it is really funny because my brother and sister look so freaking surly and we are at Disneyland, the happiest place on Earth. So I scanned in the picture, matted it and added the caption "Carl and his kids were having the time of their lives" to the front. Inside I wrote "Happy Birthday to someone who always knows how to have fun."

This one is for my brother-in-law's birthday in another few days. Hopefully he isn't reading this blog, or the surprise is ruined.

In other news, I have spent the afternoon polishing my resume'. Let me just give some advice. DO NOT sit and work on your resume' the day that you have your Valentine's parties at school. I am so jagged up on Valentine's candy that I have sat here and mindlessly consumed, I don't think I'll eat dinner tonight. Or sleep.

Happy Birthday Dad!

It is my Dad's 70th birthday today. Here we are pictured a few years ago (more like 34) together. As you can tell, I love my Dad and am glad that my Dad has always been at my side, and still is always on my side even today.

Happy 70th!
